TiviMate Not Working? Fixes for Buffering, EPG and Login Errors
TiviMate buffering, showing no TV guide or refusing your login? Here are the fixes our support team uses every day, plus the settings that keep TiviMate running smoothly.

TiviMate is one of the most stable IPTV players around. So when it starts buffering, loses the TV guide or suddenly rejects your login, the cause is almost never the app itself. It's usually the network, one wrong setting or something on the subscription side. Our support team handles these questions every day, and nine out of ten cases come down to the same handful of causes.
This guide is organised by symptom. Find the problem you have, work through the fixes from top to bottom, and you'll usually be watching again within a few minutes. At the end you'll find the settings we recommend to every subscriber, so the problems don't come back.

First: the two-minute check
Before you change any settings, rule out the basics. They solve a surprising number of problems:
- Restart the device, not just the app. Unplug your box or stick for 30 seconds. Android TV devices that run for weeks slowly fill their memory.
- Check that TiviMate is up to date. Open the Play Store (or your sideloading app on Fire TV) and install any update.
- Check the date and time. A wrong clock breaks secure connections and shifts the TV guide. Set the device to automatic date and time.
- Test another channel. If only one channel fails, the problem is that stream, not your setup. Report it to your provider.
- Run a speed test on the TV itself, not on your phone. You want at least 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K, stable over a minute.
Still not fixed? Go to the symptom below.
Problem 1: TiviMate keeps buffering
Buffering is the complaint we hear most, and it almost always has to do with the connection between the router and the TV.
Fixes, in order of impact:
- Use an Ethernet cable. This fixes more buffering than any setting. If a cable isn't possible, use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band and keep the router within a room or two of the TV.
- Raise the buffer size. In Settings → Playback → Buffer size, go up one step (for example from Normal to Large). A bigger buffer adds a second or two of delay but absorbs short network dips.
- Switch the decoder. In Settings → Playback, try switching between the hardware and software decoder. Some cheaper boxes handle certain streams better with the software decoder.
- Lower the quality for a moment. If the HD or 4K version of a channel stutters and the SD version doesn't, your connection is the bottleneck at that moment.
- Close background apps. Other streaming apps, downloads or a family member on a 4K stream all share the same connection.
If buffering only happens in the evening during big matches, the cause is usually congestion somewhere between your internet provider and the server. Some internet providers also slow down streaming traffic. In that case a good provider can offer an alternative server or connection.
Problem 2: The TV guide (EPG) is empty or wrong
An empty guide looks dramatic but is almost always easy to fix.
- Force an update. Go to Settings → EPG and choose Update EPG. After a new installation, the first download can take several minutes with thousands of channels.
- Check the EPG source. If you added your subscription as an M3U link, TiviMate doesn't know the guide by itself. Add the EPG link from your provider under Settings → EPG → EPG sources.
- Fix a time offset. Guide one hour off? Adjust EPG time shift in the EPG settings. This happens mostly around daylight-saving changes.
- Some channels without guide data? Not every channel has EPG data. Long-press the channel and use Choose EPG channel to link it to the right guide entry manually.
- Set automatic updates, for example every 12 hours, so the guide never runs empty again.

Problem 3: Login fails or the playlist won't load
Messages like "Can't connect to server", "Authorization failed" or an empty channel list mean TiviMate can't retrieve your playlist.
- Check the server URL character by character. It must include `http://` (or `https://`) and the port number if you received one, for example `:8080`. A missing port is the most common cause.
- Retype username and password. They're case-sensitive, and a space at the end is invisible but fatal. Copy and paste them if you can.
- Check your subscription status. An expired or not yet activated subscription gives exactly the same error as a typo.
- Count your devices. Every subscription allows a set number of simultaneous connections. A TV in the bedroom that's still streaming counts too.
- Remove and re-add the playlist. In Settings → Playlists, delete the playlist and add it again. This clears a corrupted cache.
Problem 4: No sound or audio out of sync
- Turn off audio passthrough. If you use a soundbar or receiver that doesn't support a certain audio format, you'll get silence. In Settings → Playback, turn passthrough off and test again.
- Choose another audio track. Some channels carry several audio tracks. Press the menu or info button during playback and pick another track.
- Adjust the audio delay. If the sound runs ahead of or behind the picture, most TVs and receivers have a lip-sync setting. Adjust it in small steps.
Problem 5: TiviMate is slow or crashes
- Clear the cache. Go to Android Settings → Apps → TiviMate → Clear cache (not Clear data, which removes your setup).
- Hide what you don't watch. Tens of thousands of channels in view slow down cheaper devices. Hide unused groups with a long press.
- Check free storage. Android devices with less than about 1 GB free become sluggish. Uninstall apps you don't use.
- Consider the hardware. A very old or entry-level stick can struggle with 4K and large playlists. A mid-range Android TV device makes a big difference.
The settings we recommend to every subscriber
Once everything works, these settings prevent most problems from coming back:
- Playback → Buffer size: Large on Wi-Fi, Normal on Ethernet.
- Playback → Auto frame rate: on, if your TV supports it. Sport and films look smoother.
- EPG → Update interval: every 12 hours.
- General → Auto start on boot: on, if the device is only used for TV.
- Playlists → Update on start: on, so channel changes from your provider come through automatically.
When the problem isn't on your side
You've worked through this guide, a cable is connected, and the problem stays? Then the cause is probably at the provider: an overloaded server, a channel that's down or a problem with your account. A good provider can see this in minutes and fix it or switch you to another server. If your provider doesn't respond, or you hit the same problems every weekend, it may be time to look further.
Frequently asked questions
Why does TiviMate buffer on Wi-Fi but not on cable?
Wi-Fi shares capacity with every device in the house and is sensitive to walls and interference. Live TV needs a steady stream, so even short dips cause buffering. A cable delivers a constant connection.
Will clearing TiviMate's data delete my playlists?
Yes. Clear data resets the app completely, including playlists, favourites and settings. Clear cache is safe and usually enough.
Does a VPN help against buffering?
Sometimes. If your internet provider slows down streaming traffic, a VPN can help. On a fast, unthrottled connection a VPN usually adds a little delay instead. Test both.
