IBO Player Not Working? Fixes for Playlist, Activation and Buffering Problems
IBO Player showing "No playlist", asking for activation again, or freezing on your Samsung or LG TV? Here's how to find the cause in minutes and fix it, including the TV settings most guides forget.

IBO Player is one of the most popular IPTV apps for Samsung and LG smart TVs, and when it works it's excellent. But because it links your playlist to the TV through a MAC address and device key, and depends on the TV's own (often modest) hardware, it has a few typical failure points that other apps don't. The good news is that almost every IBO Player problem falls into one of three groups: activation, playlist or playback.
Figure out which group your problem belongs to, then work through that section. At the end you'll find the Samsung and LG system tricks that solve a surprising number of "unfixable" issues.

Quick diagnosis: which group is it?
- The app shows an activation or trial message → activation problem.
- The app opens but shows "No playlist", an empty list or an error when loading → playlist problem.
- Channels load but freeze, buffer, stay black or have no sound → playback problem.
Group 1: Activation problems
IBO Player is free for a trial period, then asks for a one-time activation per device, paid to the app developer. Activation issues are almost always one of these:
"Your trial has expired" or "Please activate"
The trial period has ended. Activate the device through the official IBO Player website using the MAC address and device key shown in the app, then fully close and reopen the app. Never pay on a site you reached through an advert or a link in a message: copycat sites exist.
Activated, but the app still asks for activation
- Close the app completely and restart the TV, not just the app. On many TVs, the app only rechecks its status on a fresh start.
- Check that you activated the same MAC address that's on screen now. A single wrong character activates a different device.
The MAC address has changed
A factory reset, a major firmware update or reinstalling the app can generate a new MAC address or device key. The activation and playlists are tied to the old one. Contact the developer's support with both addresses, and add your playlists again under the new MAC address.
Group 2: Playlist problems
"No playlist" or an empty start screen
- Open the IBO Player website and check that your playlist is saved under the exact MAC address on your TV screen.
- After saving, restart the app. IBO Player only fetches playlists when it starts.
- If you protected the playlist with a PIN, make sure you enter the same PIN in the app.
The playlist fails to load or loads for ever
- Check the link. An M3U link must be complete, often ending in something like `&type=m3u_plus`. A link that's cut off when copying is a common cause.
- Check the subscription. An expired subscription or a subscription that hasn't been activated yet gives exactly the same result as a broken link.
- Try Xtream Codes instead of M3U if the website offers it. Large M3U files can be slow or fail on TVs with little memory.
- Remove old playlists you no longer use. Every extra playlist costs memory on the TV.
Films and series are missing
That's usually an M3U link without VOD, or an M3U format that IBO Player can't categorise. Ask your provider for the full link (often the m3u_plus variant) or use Xtream Codes details.

Group 3: Playback problems
Buffering or freezing
Smart TVs have weaker Wi-Fi and less processing power than a good streaming stick, so the network matters even more here.
- Use a network cable. This is the single biggest improvement for IBO Player on a smart TV.
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi if a cable isn't possible, and keep the router close.
- Check other devices on the network. A 4K stream or large download elsewhere in the house competes with your TV.
- Watch the timing. Buffering only on busy match evenings points to congestion between your internet provider and the server. A good IPTV provider can switch you to a quieter server.
Black screen or "Unable to play"
- Test a channel from a different group. If that one works, the problem is the specific stream: report it to your provider.
- In the IBO Player settings, try switching the player type or stream format if your version offers those options.
- Restart the TV fully (see the Samsung and LG tricks below).
No sound or sound out of sync
- If you use a soundbar, set the TV's audio output to PCM or Auto instead of passthrough/bitstream. Some audio formats in streams aren't supported by every soundbar.
- Try another audio track via the info or options button during playback.
TV guide (EPG) missing
- With Xtream Codes, the guide normally loads automatically. Give it a few minutes on first use and restart the app.
- With M3U, the guide depends on your provider's EPG link. Ask for it and add it if your version supports that.
- Guide one hour off? Check the time zone in IBO Player and set the TV's clock to automatic.
Samsung and LG tricks most guides forget
Samsung (Tizen)
- Cold reboot: hold the power button on the remote until the TV switches off and the Samsung logo appears again (about five seconds). This clears the memory in a way a normal on/off doesn't.
- Device Care: on recent models, go to Settings → Support → Device Care and run Start Device Care to free memory.
- Reinstall the app as a last resort. Check the MAC address afterwards, because it can change.
LG (webOS)
- Full restart: switch the TV off at the wall socket for a minute. A normal "off" on LG often only puts the TV in standby.
- Quick Start+: turn off Settings → General → Quick Start+. It makes the TV start faster but keeps old app data in memory, which can cause freezes.
- Clear space: remove apps you don't use. LG TVs with little free storage become sluggish.
When a different app is the better choice
If your TV is more than six or seven years old, IBO Player may simply be too heavy for it. In that case a lighter app such as Smart IPTV, or an inexpensive streaming stick with TiviMate or IPTV Smarters, usually gives a far smoother picture than any setting change.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay IBO Player again if I buy a new TV?
Activation is per device, so a new TV is a new device. Check the current terms on the official IBO Player website.
Can I use one IBO Player activation on two TVs?
No, activation is tied to the MAC address of one device. Each TV needs its own activation.
Why does IBO Player work on my phone but not on my TV?
Phones have stronger Wi-Fi and faster processors. The same playlist that works on a phone can struggle on a smart TV's weaker hardware, especially over Wi-Fi.
