Formuler and MyTVOnline: tips and fixes

A Formuler box is a serious piece of IPTV hardware, and MyTVOnline is one of the most capable apps around. But most owners only ever use a fraction of what it can do, and many of the problems we hear about come from a handful of settings that are easy to overlook.

Here are twelve tips from our support team. Some make your box faster, some make it more pleasant to use, and some fix the problems we see most often. You don't have to do them all. Pick the ones that match what bothers you.

1. Keep the system and MyTVOnline updated

Formuler regularly releases updates for both the box's system and MyTVOnline. Updates fix bugs, improve stability and sometimes speed up large channel lists. Check for updates in the box settings every month or two, and always update before you contact support about a strange problem.

2. Use the Ethernet port

Formuler boxes have an Ethernet port for a reason. A cable gives a constant connection that Wi-Fi can't match, especially for live sport in HD or 4K. If a cable isn't possible, a powerline adapter is often better than weak Wi-Fi.

3. Choose Xtream Codes over M3U

If your provider offers both, Xtream Codes is the better choice in MyTVOnline. It loads live TV, the TV guide and on-demand content automatically and keeps them in sync. M3U works, but you'll often have to add the EPG yourself.

4. Hide what you never watch

Tens of thousands of channels in view slow down scrolling and loading. Hide whole groups for countries and languages you don't watch. Your list becomes shorter, zapping gets quicker and the box has less to load.

5. Build your own favourite groups

Create a few favourite groups, for example Sport, News, Films and Kids, and add the channels you actually watch. Many owners end up using only their favourites, which makes the box feel like a tidy traditional decoder.

6. Fix the TV guide properly

If the guide is empty or wrong:

  • Refresh the EPG from the service settings and give it a few minutes on first load.
  • With M3U, add your provider's EPG URL.
  • If times are an hour off, check the time zone in the box's system settings and the EPG offset in MyTVOnline.
  • Channels without a guide sometimes simply have no EPG data. That's normal.

7. Use catch-up

On channels where your provider stores past programmes, you can go back in the TV guide and watch something that already aired. Look for the catch-up indicator on the channel or programme. If it isn't there, that channel has no archive.

8. Record to USB

Connect a USB stick or external drive and you can record programmes, if your model and subscription support it. Use a reasonably fast drive: very cheap sticks can cause stuttering recordings.

9. Try multi-screen on match days

Many Formuler models can show several channels at once. On busy football evenings this lets you follow several matches side by side. It asks more of your connection, so a cable really helps here.

10. Clear the cache when things feel slow

If MyTVOnline becomes sluggish after months of use, clear its cache in the app or system settings. Avoid a full data reset unless you're prepared to set up your services and favourites again.

11. Restart properly

Standby isn't the same as a restart. When something behaves strangely, do a full restart of the box, or unplug it for 30 seconds. It sounds basic, but it solves a surprising share of problems.

12. Know when it's not the box

If you're on a cable, the box and app are up to date, and the same channels keep failing or buffering, the problem is almost certainly on the provider's side. A good provider responds quickly, checks your account and fixes the stream or moves you to a less busy server.

Quick fixes for common error messages

  • "Login failed": check username, password and the full server URL including the port. Make sure your subscription is active and you're not over the device limit.
  • "No channels": remove the service and add it again to clear old data.
  • "Stream not available": try another channel. If others work, report that channel to your provider.
  • Playback stops after a few seconds: check other devices using the network, then restart the router and the box.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to buy MyTVOnline separately?

No, it comes with Formuler boxes. You only need an IPTV subscription for the content.

Can I use TiviMate on my Formuler instead?

Yes, Formuler boxes run Android, so you can install other players. Many owners keep MyTVOnline for its integration with the hardware.

Will clearing the cache delete my favourites?

Clearing the cache normally keeps your services and favourites. A full data reset removes them. When in doubt, clear the cache only.
