IPTV versus cable: what actually changes

Switching from cable to IPTV is mostly an upgrade, but not uniformly so. Here is what changes in both directions, so you can decide with the full picture rather than half of it.
What gets better
- Cost, usually by a large margin
- Channel choice, especially international and sports
- Portability: the subscription travels with you
- No installation appointment and no proprietary hardware
What gets worse
- You depend entirely on your internet connection
- A channel can move or disappear without notice
- There is no engineer to send when something breaks
For most households the trade is worth making. If your connection is unreliable and you cannot improve it, cable remains the safer choice, and we would rather tell you that up front than take your money.
